EB-5 Investor Visa: US Residence Permit for Investment
30 years ago, the United States government launched a program called the Immigrant Investor Program, aimed at attracting wealthy investors from around the world. Similar to the ‘Golden Visa’ programs of some other developed countries, the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program offers residence permits to foreigners making a valid investment in the USA. To qualify for an EB-5 visa issued through investment companies called the Regional Center, the following requirements must be met:
- EB-5 investors are required to invest a minimum of $800,000 USD in regions defined within a specific employment area (these are called Targeted Employment Areas, or TEA for short), and $1,050,000 for locations outside these regions.
- Funds used for investment must be legally obtained and this must be documented.
- The EB-5 investment must be made through a ‘Regional Center’ licensed by the USCIS for this business.
- The EB-5 investment must be made in accordance with US immigration laws.
- The EB-5 investment must provide permanent, new employment to at least 10 workers within the United States.
